But I had to share this track I just half-heartedly danced around to in my room with you all. I'd dance more enthusiastically for sure but I'm so tired from all that out of character exercise/walking slowly.
I just flicked over to Et Musique Pour Tous and this wonderful remix by Shindu of Happy House came on.
Have a wee listen why don't you, and dance whole-heartedly for me.
Back Again.
I'll explain why I've been away so long in a later post, but the short story is I've been mad stressed because I muffed up/did excellently in my exams.
Right now however, I'm looking out at the clouds hanging over London and wishing the sunshine would come back. When it was sunny my room (which is essentially a greenhouse with a broken [the bad kind-permanently on] radiator) was hell. I get really sleepy in warm weather, so I'd just pass out if I spent more than 5 minutes in my room - and since its so teeny/skanky, the only comfortable place to sit was on the chair by my desk, so I'd wake up stinky, warm and with a cricked neck - not great.
But my room does have an excellent view over all of... Acton. Acton's not that pretty, but I can see loads of people's gardens and roofs and I feel potent up here. When the weather is crappy I don't enjoy the view so much.
I just downloaded a dope mixtape from a website I found whilst facebook stalking Larry - Word Is Bond. It's quickly replaced Et Musique Pour Tous as my new favourite music blog. Click the WIB link to download the tape, its amazing. DJ Jazzy Jeff & Mick Boogie team up to make a wonderful summer soundtrack. Any fans of Mary Jane Girls, Stevie and R Kelly before we found out he was dodge, check it out.
edit: a friend from chiswick is posting some funky stuff, check out posts on WIB by Lork!!!
Was there anybody who didn't jizz and freak out when they caught the clip of the Beats, Rhymes and Life trailer last december?? I distinctly remember thinking "I wish I was cool enough to know lots about Tribe and bum this trailer more". Anyway, I did some homework, went to DADA, looked at an album, decided I was still too poor to buy music, read all about the mad beef between qtip and the director (hypetrak y'aaaall) and then found the new clip that's surfaced on the internet and jizzed and freaked out all over again.
Anyway, for all the A Tribe Called Quest fans, here's that "new clip" that's promised to produce "freak outs" "bug outs" and all other kinds of fly terms for huge excitement/panic over 'will it be good?!' thoughts. <- ew my grammar.
Also, if you're wanting some extra linkage in case that video gets stolen again, I hear there's a copy of the trailer floating about on VIMEO still..
Apparently the film will be aired at Tribeca at the end of the month, as well as wishing I was cool enough/had time to know loads of stuff about Quest, I also wish I was cool enough to go to Tribeca/want to go there. I'm not good at watching films so really I don't actually want to go.
I thought being in Wales for this weekend would be horrific, but actually the solitude is doing me good.
I turned down the offer of exploring Worcester and the cathedral there, and instead I've been exploring the surrounding fields (minus a camera because I'm a twat and left the battery at home), doing yoga in the sunshine and eating enormous amounts of bagels.
Still no work done yet though.
I thought I'd post this tune - the beat is how I feel, I'm here but all floaty, and not-city-like.
If you think I'm enjoying my time here though, wait till tomorrow's post. I'm sure I'll be hating the silence in a few hours.
I may have recovered from my hangover, finally, but my body's definitely not recovered from 2 weeks of wine, cheese and 4 packets of oreos with a glass of milk a day. According to my doctor, I'm lactose intolerant and my body's very special way of telling me it hates milk is to give me a lovely big belly an hour after I've had any dairy to eat/drink. Sexy.
Because I'm terrible at turning up to the gym or even to Yoga now that this ridiculously hot guy started going (I don't want him seeing me giggling through downward facing dog), I need a new exercise.
It's been recommended by Velma that I just dance through everything I do. Her theory is that I'll get fit and also get all my tunes set for carnival.
I've fallen for this song, it makes me think of that moment on a night out when everything is absolutely perfect. You've got your girls, the world is fuzzy and pumping to the DOPE tune that's playing.
Let it be known, that while I may at times dress like one, I hate Hipsters. If you feel the need to label yourself with a word or phrase that you sprung straight from urbandictionary.com, or in fact, any word, I will judge you.
Despite all the negativity I feel towards the "hipsters" I do quite like the music associated with that social group. Lately I've started to enjoy more and more electronica and pop, much to my own distaste. I honestly judge myself when I listen to it. It's like one half of my brain is actually saying "Look at that fucking hipster" while the other half is going "I totally feel this vibe bro."
Anyway. Listen to this. It makes me feel relaxed, like I'm cotching on a beach with my dope friends, and reminds me SLIGHTLY of my portu-gal times with Larry. Pre-Seaweed of course.
Kim Graham has corrupted me.
Not only is she a massive stoner*, as proved by that photo, but she has also sweet-talked** me into going to see Against Me, a "punk-rock" band in November to celebrate our wonderful birthdays.
I use inverted commas with that genre because when I say "punk-rock", I can't help saying it without a slight pause before and after it, like I am actually saying it with the inverted commas floating in mid air. I don't do rock. Jen played me something by some guy with small and tate in his name and it didn't go down well. Liam played me some Guns and Roses, which I liked, but I was informed by Jen and Kim that that bullshit doesn't fly when it comes to saying "I like rock", it's modern rock or no rock. Kim played me some Motorhead and I nearly cried. However, I have been to gigs where rock music was featured. The most hard-core "modern rock" I've been to see was some strange Japanese band in Angel a few years, and that was only because I thought the drummer was cute. Then he came out with white-out contacts in, and I decided to drink until the music sounded or he looked hot. Neither he nor it ever did.
Hmm.
However, I am positive that I will enjoy this. Kim has played me something called Coheed & Cambria, which I was not averse to. If that band was in man form, I wouldn't kick him out of bed.
Wouldn't invite him in sober though.
Anyway, here's a little bit of Against Me! for you to listen to and judge whether you think I'm mad or not. Kim tells me this song is their new commercialised stuff, and therefore less scary to me.
In true form, I'm less worried about the gig than I am about what I'll wear. If I had a limitless budget, I'd wear studded ashish for the entire gig and a pair of yummy desert boots. But I don't have that budget, so it's going to be old nikes and THIS outfit, which I'm saving up for..
Lace Jacket and Jeans, Urban Outfitters; Corsellete & Necklace, Topshop
EDIT:
Kim played me Machine Head.
Not Motor Head.
Apparently they're different.
DISCLAIMER
*by "massive stoner" I mean she had a few puffs of some green I found 4 months dry in my presence once
and
**by "sweet-talked" I mean she posted on facebook 'who wants to go to a gig?' and I eagerly replied that I would DEFINITELY go.
ME: I like lots of things but its shit to list that here. Read my blog, you'll get me eventually. I don't even know why this part of the blog exists, just cos its a template, and I dont know how to get rid of it. Might as well fill it with something
I don't update this blog as much as I should, apologies. I'm a 20 year old student living in London/Cambridge depending on the dates. I've just finished a difficult two years studying Japanese, and while I loved my culture/essay subjects, the grammar got to me, and I'm starting my final two years in History of Art in October! VERY exciting. This blog is both a diary for me and a collection of things within art, fashion and music that I find interesting.
